Songs Sung for the Oppressed

Advocates of Silenced Turkey is proud to present a unique Song Contest: Songs Sung for the Oppressed, a biennial international competition that uses the transformative power of music to raise awareness about human rights violations in Turkey.

Through this initiative, we aim to shed light on the struggles of political prisoners, torture survivors, and individuals deprived of their fundamental freedoms. This competition is not limited to music; it also represents resistance, solidarity, and the effort to give voice to the silenced.

Objectives

– Raise awareness on human rights violations.

– Use art as a medium to sustain consciousness on injustice.

– Encourage composers and singers to speak out for human rights and contribute to the advancement of fine arts.

Rules & Regulations

– No restrictions on musical genre.

– Submissions must be original and innovative.

– Maximum 3 entries per participant (only one can advance to the finals).

– Songs must be free of plagiarism or contractual conflicts.

Rights & Media

By participating, contestants grant AST the right to share submitted songs across media platforms—social media, radio, TV, educational and cultural outlets—to amplify their impact.

– Winners will be revealed at the official award ceremony following each contest.

-First Place: $2,000

-Second Place: $1,000

-Third Place: $500

-Honorable Mentions for 5 participants

Jury & Evaluation

– Jury members act with confidentiality and impartiality.

– Songs are evaluated on vocal technique and performance.

– Top 15 songs are selected by the jury.

– Final 3 winners are chosen by public vote during the ceremony.
